Ukiyo-e

This collection of precious artifacts encompasses the essence of Ukiyo-e art, spanning its golden age of artistic development. From the early explorations of the Kano and Tosa schools, through the flourishing periods of the Katsukawa and Utagawa schools, to the late innovations of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Toyohara Kunichika, this collection fully showcases the magnificent journey of Ukiyo-e. Particularly noteworthy in this collection are the outstanding works from the Edo period's Utagawa school. Utagawa Hiroshige, a prominent representative of this school, elevated the landscape techniques of Ukiyo-e to artistic heights with his exceptional contributions to landscape painting. His "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" series is not only a pride of the Utagawa school but also a brilliant gem of this collection. Additionally, this collection extensively covers masterpieces from other artists of the Utagawa school, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of Ukiyo-e across different subjects.

Furthermore, Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa (Reproduction)" stands as the crowning jewel of this collection, highlighting its significant place in both Ukiyo-e and world art history. Hokusai's works are celebrated not only in Japan but also serve as a window for the Western world to appreciate Japanese art. His influence extends deeply into Western art movements such as Impressionism, inspiring many masters including Monet and Van Gogh. Through these artifacts, viewers can vividly experience the vibrant prosperity of Ukiyo-e art and its role as a cultural bridge between the East and the West, embarking on an artistic journey that transcends time and space.

This series of collections spans from the 17th to the 19th century and features prominent artists such as Utagawa Hiroshige, Katsushika Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, and Toyohara Kunichika.
