This collection presents 123 significant artifacts from Ancient Egypt, spanning 4,300 years and 32 dynasties. The centerpiece includes two well-preserved mummies and their sarcophagi - offering visitors a rare glimpse into ancient Egyptian burial practices. All items are on loan from the University of Aberdeen Museums and Special Collections, bringing Chinese audiences closer to Egyptian civilization.
Four themed galleries organize the cultural treasures: Mummies and Immortality, Beauty and Protection, Gods and People, and Offerings and Rituals. Featured works include three sarcophagi, two mummies, five animal mummies, and eight mummy wrappings. Visitors can examine noble jewelry, divine sculptures, relief murals, canopic jars, and cosmetic implements. These objects chart the development of Egyptian civilization from the earliest Nile settlements through its later periods.
The space draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian architecture and color schemes. Each artifact is presented in its historical context, recreating settings from daily life in ancient Egypt. Pyramid-shaped display cases provide multiple viewing angles for detailed observation.
As Associate Professor Zhao Yan from the China's Central Academy of Fine Arts notes, these ancient artifacts carry both historical and cultural significance. The interdisciplinary approach allows visitors to explore Egyptian history, culture, design, and color through multiple perspectives.
"Meet Ancient Egypt" series of exhibitions has welcomed over 100,000 visitors and received recognition from mainstream media outlets.
