Meet Brueghel European Painting Masters of the 16th and 17th Centuries

This exhibition focuses on the 16th and 17th century Netherlandish school, featuring 91 original works by the Bruegel family and artists influenced by their style, including oil paintings, watercolors, and prints. The Bruegel family's classic works cover landscapes, allegorical paintings, and still lifes, with some pieces being rarely exhibited overseas treasures, and most making their debut in China. Specially supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in China, the exhibition offers visitors a precious opportunity to comprehend the complete artistic legacy of the Bruegel family and appreciate their timeless artistic vitality.

The Bruegel family, active for over 150 years since 1525, stands as a brilliant jewel in Belgian culture. Starting with father Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the family produced several generations of exceptional painters, achieving remarkable artistic accomplishments that made the "Bruegel family" one of the most pioneering and renowned artistic dynasties, whose influence continues to this day.

The exhibition presents works by nine painters from the family, including Pieter Bruegel the Elder, a leading figure of 16th-century Flemish painting, along with his two sons, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. Most notably, the exhibition includes 11 works by Bruegel the Elder, featuring his classic peasant-themed oil paintings making their first appearance in China.

Walking through the exhibition halls, visitors can not only appreciate rare original oil paintings by European masters and experience pure artistic beauty but also gain a deep understanding of the evolution of European painting history through their works.
